My Maltese sleeping in our bed has put a damper on our sex life, what to do ?

My adored 10 month old puppy sleeps in our bed . My bed is very high off the floor , I need a step stool . Bought him Doggie stairs and everything is fine until we want to be intimate. We put him on his doggie bed besides ours and remove his doggie stairs , well immediately he begins to bark continuously and jumps to try to get on our bed . Runs from one side to the nest barking and jumping and whining . Kills the moment and the mood .I mean who can concentrate!! Its been months and not sure how to handle this any longer . Have two children ( 15 and 10 yr old boys )at home and they awaken to ask why our pet is barking , Try to have him sleep with kids he will leave and come to my room. Try closing him out of our room until we are done and will scratch and bark at door . Have to be civil to my tentants downstairs cant allow him to bark so late at night . What to do ?
